Pens Elimination Day - Wednesday, May 12th
To all DC area sports fans, rejoice...I officially designate today, Wednesday May 12th, as "Pens Elimination Day"...today is the day that the golden boy's game-winning goal in the Olympics now seems to be a quickly fading fluke...a day when the previously brilliant post-season antics of goalie Theo Fluery now seem simply average in the face of an unconscious Miroslav Halak...a day when the crafty plays of setup-man Malkin seem childish in the face of a stingy defense led by Hal Gill...and yes a day when Crosby's post-season stats pale in the face of the Great 8's against the same opponent...all hail Pens Elimination Day!

c.p. interview
In a recent interview on 106.7 The Fan, 'skins running back Clinton Portis had some interesting comments. Maybe Clinton is still recovering from the effects of last year's concussion, because his claims were outrageous.
First, he described the trio of washed-up running backs recently assembled by the 'skins to be similar to the the "running back-by-committee" schemed used by most other teams in the NFL.
Sorry Clinton.
Instead of the Giants' heralded one-two punch of Thunder and Lightning, this is more like an underpowered Prius being backed up by a Honda Insight. Larry Johnson had the lowest yards per carry of any running back in the NFL last year, and C.P.'s numbers were way down last year due to injury. And we all know (can anyone say Ronnie Brown boys and girls?) that once a back is injury-prone they rarely return to their former greatness.
Next C.P. waxed poetic about the trouble opponents will have next year defending the skins passing game. Really? I don't think there is a corner in the league that loses sleep at night worrying about butter-fingers Malcolm Kelly or an aged Joey Galloway beating them deep.
To me, the prized possession of the 'skins is QB Donovan McNabb. But with few decent targets and a lackluster backfield, my advice to Donovan is this - QB draw, every down.
At least Donovan's wheels are a proven commodity.
